The Kimura got its name from a match between Helio Gracie and Masahiko Kimura. During the fight Kimura put Gracie in many different grappling holds and submissions, a multiple of times. Around the thirteen minute mark of the match Kimura caught Gracie in a reverse ude-garami. Gracie was unwilling to submit, and kimura continued the lock.
